Dying of Curiosity is a quest available in Dragon's Dogma. You must activate and complete this quest before starting Come to Court (visiting the Duke for the first time). If it is still active when selecting "hear the duke's directive" it will automatically be cancelled.


  • "Valmiro the fisherman has once again wandered to parts unknown. His fellow villagers are concerned for his safety."


This quest is acquired when talking with Merin in Cassardis. He will mention Valmiro has gone missing.

Inquire after Valmiro

  • Speak with villagers to gather clues as to where Valmiro might have wandered.

Track down Valmiro (1)

  • Valmiro is on the beach, turn right just past the cassardis gate to find him. sleep at the inn until or morning and find him to the left of the entrance of the encampment
  • Valmiro went to the encampment...but to what end? Make for the camp and ensure his safety.

Track down Valmiro (2)

  • Valmiro headed to the Witchwood...but for what purpose? Make for the forest and ensure the fishermans's safety.

Track down Valmiro (3)

  • Valmiro resolved to return to Cassardis. Head back to the village and report the news to his friend Merin.

Quest successful

  • You tracked down Valmiro and brought him back to Cassardis. Quest reward received.

Six Greenwarish are required to complete this quest. For expediency, all required items may be withdrawn from storage prior to the start of the journey.

Dying of Curiosity may be combined with Witch's Brew and/or Lost and Found as all three quests have the same destination (the Witchwood). A Gransys Herb is required to complete Witch's Brew.

The quest Dying of Curiosity may be acquired from a fisherman named Merin, who can be located along the shore in Cassardis

or walking through town.

The next step ("Inquire after Valmiro") may be skipped entirely by exiting Cassardis and turning right along the beach.

Inquire after Valmiro (optional)Edit

Merin will suggest speaking with other villagers to ascertain Valmiro's whereabouts. Speaking with them is optional, so the party may proceed directly to the Unusual Beach outside Cassardis to find Valmiro.

Alonso can be found lingering around the gate of the village. He'll say that he's seen Valmiro near the shore, but that he seemed a bit "unawares".

Barten hasn't seen him, but Valmiro spoke with him earlier about sea creatures. He'll suggest searching by the shore.

Mayra last saw him up in a tree, chasing after a bird. She heard him mention wanting to explore the land to the south though.

Speaking with folk will not update the quest.

Head outside Cassardis and go down the path to the right that leads to the beach. There, Valmiro can be seen lying helplessly in the sand. Speak to him and he'll beg for an herb.

Give him a Greenwarish (found around the immediate vicinity) and a mini-cutscene will trigger, during which he'll apologize and set off for the Encampment.

Track down Valmiro (1)Edit

Head towards the Encampment.

Near the gate, Valmiro can be seen laying off the side of the road beneath a tree. Speak with him and he'll ask for 2 more herbs (2 Greenwarish). Hand them over and another cutscene will trigger. He'll then make his way to Witchwood.

In order to avoid night time enemies, rest at the inn at the Encampment until morning before heading out to the Witchwood.

To reach the Witchwood, take the left path on Manamia Trail after exiting the encampment through the north gate up into the mountains. Avoid the incoming rolling boulders by backtracking or shooting them. Keep to the left, past the Bandits and Wolves until a white fog appears. This is the Witchwood.

Only a few steps into the woods will reveal Valmiro, who's collapsed on the road yet again. This time, he'll ask for a 3 more herbs (3 Greenwarish). Hand them over and a final cutscene with Valmiro will trigger. He'll apologize for being foolish and say he'll never leave the village again before heading home.

Track down Valmiro (3)Edit

After Valmiro exits the Witchwood, head back to Cassardis to tell Merin Valmiro is safe and sound back home. The quickest route to Cassardis is actually through the Witchwood instead of turning back.

The quest Witch's Brew may be completed now by continuning onto the Witch's House, giving Selene a Gransys Herb, and reporting back to Arsmith in Gran Soren.

Head into the Witchwood over the creek and keep to the left path while the road forks twice until you see a fallen tree acting as a makeshift bridge. Climb up the rocks on the left and cross the tree and head further east. Continue on this path to find the Witch's cottage. During the day Selene can be found in the flowerbeds or in her house. Give her a Gransys Herb and she will produce an Herb Ale for the Witch's Brew quest.

Now exit the woods through the north exit. The caves will exit at Seabreeze Trail just outside of Cassardis. Now head back to Cassardis and speak with Merin to complete the quest.

Quest successfulEdit

After speaking with Merin the quest is completed. Speaking with Valmiro in Cassardis will award three Sundering Spear tomes for helping him. Speaking with Valmiro a second time will award three Fulgurous Lord Tomes.
