Coincollector

Gold is the primary currency of Gransys. It is used to pay for most items and equipment, and for most services. It can be earned from quests, selling items and is found as loot. While much of the equipment sold by vendors is expensive, Gold is relatively easy to come by.

The maximum Gold that can be held by the player is 99,999,999. If the player is within a selling menu and have items that sell past this amount, they'll be blacked out.  The Arisen and party can continue collecting Coin Pouches from the ground after the player reaches the maximum amount, but that Gold is lost.

Buying and selling

  • Some Vendors, such as Fournival, will provide you a discount on their items if you help them in certain quests. Gaining high Affinity with NPCs will often provide the chances for Escort Quests or certain rarities, too.
  • Discounts are offered at certain shops when anyone within the party carries one of the following items: Wyrm Hunt License (5%), Badge of Merit (8%), Bronze Idol (10%), Silver Idol (20%), or Gold Idol (30%). Idol forgeries provide the same discounts as the authentic corresponding idols of the same color. When carrying any combination of these discount items, only the largest discount is applied. Discounts do not stack with multiple items.
  • The Augment Suasion increases the amount of gold gained for items sold. The effect also stacks (multiplies as a percentage), so a full party all possessing the Suasion augment can sell items for a much larger sum than usual.
  • Some time-sensitive items actually gain value over time. For example Carrots and Twigbeans become moldy after three days and then become worth far more than they were originally purchased for, since they recover more health. This increase in value originally formed part of a money making exploit which was patched in June of 2012 limiting the shopkeeper Iola's stocks a maximum of 99 carrots with a much reduced rate of resupply.
  • Even with a party of four all with the Suasion augment, and with purchase reducing items such as the Gold Idol the overall buy-sell cycle is always loss-making.

Acquiring gold

  • Quests are obviously the main source of coin. Particularly those quests that offer a reward of weapons, such as those offering Golden Weapons, are worth taking on for money.
  • Gold can be found in chests, or dropped from enemies in the form of Coin Pouches. There are four different types of coin pouches: Small Coin Pouch containing 100 Gold, Coin Pouch containing 1,000 Gold, Large Coin Pouch containing 3,500 Gold and Giant Coin Pouch containing 10,000 Gold.
    • In Hard Mode, regular enemies will drop Giant Coin Pouches with great frequency in Gransys but not on Bitterblack Isle. This killing minor enemies in Gransys is a rapid route to wealth when playing on hard.
  • Various low risk ways to acquire coin at lower levels include:
  • Farming the Offline Ur-Dragon can also be a very efficient way to accumulate Gold, assuming the player is capable of killing it safely and quickly. Each kill has a guaranteed reward of 20 Wakestones plus a holy enchanted weapon. With wakestones having a base price of 30,000 gold, plus the magic weapons commanding about half a million gold, over one million gold can be earned from a single kill without even counting the sale of Putrid Dragon Scales and other item drops, or using the augment Suasion.
