Harbinger of Destruction is a quest available in Dragon's Dogma.

Overview[]

"Without warning, a dragon sets upon the peaceful fishing village of Cassardis. Someone must face the wyrm to spare the villagers."

Harbinger of Destruction is the first quest after the prologue, The End at the Beginning, beginning once Character Customization has been completed.

A giant red dragon attacks the coastal village of Cassardis, your home. Take up arms against the Dragon and attempt to defend your homeland.

Notes[]

  • The quest completes regardless of how effectively the Arisen fights the Dragon.
    • Running away towards the village gate will trigger the cutscene where the Dragon takes the Arisen's heart. In Speed Runs this can be used to quickly complete the quest.
  • The effect of the Brine is much weaker or absent during the attack, and the Arisen may go much deeper into the sea than usual.
  • The Dragon attack has several direct consequences in addition to the creation of a new Arisen.
    • One house in the village is badly destroyed - villagers spend the rest of the main storyline repairing it. The Village Pier is also damaged.
    • Many villagers are hurt, which leads to the quest Floral Delivery
    • Merin's brother Cortese is killed which leads to the quest Grim Tidings
    • According to Elonzo another villager Rickard died.
  • The Dragon's speech to the Arisen during the quest is thought to be in Wyrmspeak. For speculation on its translation and meaning see The Dragon.

Quotes[]

Today, like every day, waves gently lap at the shore
near your tiny village.

The twin blessings of warm sun and bounteous waters afford
a simple but pleasant life. Nets are cast and chores completed
friends and families gather to laugh and talk around the fire.

So it has always been, and so it will always be...of this,
you are certain.

Until the afternoon grows late, and you hear the rush of wingbeats...
