Silence
Silence is a debilitation in Dragon's Dogma which removes the character's ability to cast spells.

Description

Silence prevents the afflicted from casting spells, though they may still use physical attacks and non-spell skills.

Silence can be inflicted by Silentium, the Jewel of Silence, by Silencer Arrows, and by Golden Weapons enhanced to 3 stars or higher.

Certain creature attacks can inflict Silence, as well as the swamps of the Miasmic Haunt during the day. 

Can be cured by Throat DropsInterventivePanacea, the group-curative Throat Remedy, the spell Halidom and any spell or item that grants Impervious.

All Staff Skills, Archistaff Skills, Magick Shield Skills, and Magick Bow Skills are Silenced. Core Skills like Magick Billow or Magick Bolt are not affected by silencing.

Magick Archer's dagger skills Scension, Sunburst, Shadowpin, and Magick Rebuffer and related spells are silenceable; whilst for Mystic Knight the weapon spells Magick Cannon, Funnel Sigil, Stone Grove, and Perilous Sigil and related magic can be silenced.

Notes

  • Silence is an especially useful debilitation to inflict upon spellcasting enemies like the Dark Bishop, Liches, Wights, Goblin Shamans, Wyrms, and Frostwyrms. Silencing spellcasting enemies renders them effectively harmless for the duration of the spell since they tend to have no other means of hurting the party and as such the Arisen's offensive tactics can be focused on other targets.
  • Only the Ur-Dragon and Daimon are immune to silence.
  • The higher the enhancement of a Golden weapon, the higher the chance it will inflict Silence.
  • Does not prevent the Chimera's roar, but does prevent the goat's head from casting.
  • Doesn't prevent Dragon Roar
