"Investigate a slate bearing a forgotten script. It may reveal aught of the dragon."
DetailsEdit
The quest is obtained by speaking with Ser Maximilian in the Noble Quarter and selecting "Decipher a text" from his available quests. It requires you to find out what the text on an ancient slate means.
Inquire Around Town (optional)
- Seek those in the city who might shed light on the slate's queer script.
Seek Further Leads
- Search for one privy to the significance of the slate's key words: "dragon," "scar," "Arisen," and "heart."
Report Your Findings
- Travel back to Ser Maximilian and tell him what you learned.
Quest Successful
- You reported your findings about the slate to Ser Maximilian. Quest reward received.

Added by SunnygrgOnce you have obtained the quest from Maximilian there are a few ways you can go about completing this quest. The quest states you are to inquire around town in order to find out more about the slate.
Although talking with some of the inhabitants in Gran Soren sheds some light on the quest and points you in the right direction this part is optional and you may choose to skip them altogether (See "Seek Further Leads").
Inquire Around Town (optional)Edit
In the Fields of Gran Soren you can find a farmer called Josias. He tells you he doesn't know anything about the writings, but he thinks a scrivener might be able to tell you more. Go to The Black Cat which can be found in the Venery (south district) in Gran Soren and talk to the Scrivener, Montebank. He will give you some information on the slate. Find the courier Maurin who's running around the town. He sometimes makes stops at Caxton's Armory in Fountain Square.
Seek Further LeadsEdit
Either from learning from the Gran Soren people or not, Hillfigure Knoll is your destination. To reach it be prepared to do some traveling. Hillfigure Knoll is located to the north of Gran Soren. To get there it is best to exit Gran Soren through the north entrance and travel to Deos Hills. Take the path leading north and over the bridge. Directly after the bridge the path splits, but you will want to take the right path called Conquest Road which goes north. Here you will meet some Bandits, Goblins and Snow Harpies.
After some traveling you will see Windbluff Tower in the distance. You may enter here, but there's no active quests here at the moment.
Take the road past Windbluff Tower to the Northface Forest. Beware of Snow Harpies and Direwolves as you make your way north. A bit north of Windbluff Tower you will see a road winding up the hill west of the path you are on and if you look closely you will see a large figure drawn on the hill. This is Hillfigure Knoll.
Travel up the hill and make your way to the collection of stones to the left of the hill. Between the rocks is a cave entrance. As you approach the cave a cutscene will trigger with The Fool and The Dragonforged shedding some light on your predicament. After the cutscene you will find yourself inside Hillfigure Knoll. Speak with The Dragonforged and he will explain the slates meaning to you.
Note: The cutscene will trigger regardless of whether this quest is active.
Report Your FindingsEdit
Once you have spoken with The Dragonforged you can explore the caverns. There is a Bronze Idol next to his throne and a Recluse's Robe in the Armor/Weapons pile close to the entrance. When you're done you are to return to Gran Soren and report your findings to Ser Maximilian.
Quest SuccessfulEdit
After speaking with Ser Maximilian the quest is completed. You may select another Wyrm Hunt Quest if he has them available or choose "Hear the duke's directive" to advance the story line afterwards.
