OverviewEdit

A hidden cave behind a waterfall that can be discovered on the trail to The Mountain Waycastle.

"I am but a wandering merchant. And yet I witnessed something absolutely incredible with my own two eyes! Behind a giant waterfall there is an entrance to a secret cave! Etched on a stone nearby was an ancient emblem, perhaps a symbol for one of the old gods. I remember my mother once told me that the Watergod is one of the gods worshipped by an old religion long before our time in the region of the Pike. The altar looks manmade, built around the flow of water. I heard strange noises afoot down there, and I will not return for fear of the creatures who may reside beyond. My curiosity is strong, but not so strong as to blind me to the fact that whatever lurks within the altar is not interested in buying what I'm selling."

This Quest will require a lot of weight to be carried. It is not advisable to do this quest alone as you will most likely be overencumbered before obtaining all necessary items. It is advised to bring a party of four, preferably with the Augment called "Sinew", which allows more weight to be carried.

The quest also has many enemies vulnerable to fire damage. Please take note of this when preparing to start this quest.

Speak with Father GeffreyEdit

Once you have obtained this quest, you will be directed to speak to Father Geffrey, whom you can find in the Gran Soren Cathedral. He will inform you of the survey mission and ask you to assist the researchers at the Watergod's Altar.

Meet With the Survey PartyEdit

After speaking with Father Geffrey it's time to head to the Watergod's Altar. The fastest way to get there is to exit Gran Soren through the south entrance and head towards the The Mountain Waycastle. The fastest route through the mountains is to take the first left when you reach the first waycastle. This is the waycastle you had to open during the quest Off With Its Head while fighting numerous Goblins. Taking the left here will avoid most Harpies and the falling rocks. You will find some Bandits here in this pass, but other than that the walk is quite short. Once you climb your way up at the end of this path you will find yourself close to The Mountain Waycastle.

Head through the gates and over the bridge. Continue following the path until you see a small corridor right of the path alongside the mountains heading down. Goblins are guarding this corridor, but they should prove no challenge. Head further down and keep going down, ignoring the left fork at the open area with the rock formation. You will end up at the river, but you cannot cross here. Take the path hugging the western mountainside and keep going until you find a shallow part of the river filled with rocks. You may cross here. Most likely your Pawns will go ahead of you. Now keep going on the path hugging the eastern mountainside until you reach the waterfall itself. Here you will find Haslett. Speak with him.

Find the Missing BrotherEdit

Haslett tells you of Brother Jean, who entered the Watergod's Altar but has not returned for some time. He asks you to find him. Enter the cave behind the waterfall. Note that you will get Drenched unless you have immunity to drenching.

Inside the Watergod's Altar you will find yourself in a dank cave. Head through the entrance tunnel and up the ramp (there's a snake here) and on through the doorway. Ignore the corridor to the right, but make note of it as you will be coming back here later. The corridor directly across to the left has some Skeletons and some Coin Pouches at the end. You enter a large room with no way of proceeding: a window washer-style platform would allow you to cross a huge gap in the walkway, but the Lever to lower it into place is missing. Take the stairs to the left down and continue until you find a large chamber. You will fight many Saurians here; when you have defeated them all, a door in the back opens and even more Saurians come at you.

Once you have killed the last of the Saurians, enter the door which has just been opened to find three chests and some Coin Pouches. The large chest contains the Watergod's Altar Lever, which is required to lower the platform in the room atop the stairs. Take the lever and make your way back up; insert the lever and activate it to lower the platform. Prepare yourself for battle.

At first this area might seem confusing. It has no direct route to the other side, but there is a walkway to the left and one to the right. The one on the right leads to the center area. Take this one first. There will be several Skeleton Mages here casting powerful magicks so be careful. There are two chests here.

Next take the path to the left. Prepare to fight Saurians here. They cling to the ceiling and jump down on you as you pass. If you can spot them, you may be able to shoot them down beforehand to create a strategic advantage. Continue on the left path until it reaches the opposite wall. Head slightly right and enter the Offering Chamber.

The Offering Chamber is host to a Cyclops. Kill it to trigger a cutscene. As this is a quest-tied Cyclops, its remains will always end up in the center of the room no matter where it was slain. After the Cyclops has been defeated, look for the quest-related item called the Watergod Altar Key. Make sure to search the room for other treasures, then return to the entrance to find Brother Jean's blood and robes on the floor. Examining his remains will update the quest.

Report Jean's Demise to Haslett (optional)Edit

Once you have found Brother Jean you may return to Brother Haslett to report your findings. If you do he will ask you to investigate the ruins in their stead. Investigating the ruins requires the use of the Watergod Altar Key you acquired earlier in the Offering Chamber. Reporting back to Haslett is optional. You may proceed with the investigations as soon as you find Jean and obtain the Key. If you do choose to report to Haslett as the quest requests beware of the waterfall as it will drench you and dose any lanterns in you or your party's possession.

Investigate the RuinsEdit

Whether or not you returned to Haslett, make your way to the corridor we ignored near the entrance of the cavern. Once there insert the Watergod Altar Key to open the door. Here you will find Sulfur Saurians. Beware as Sulfer Saurians are capable fighters and far stronger than normal Suarians. The cramped space is to their advantage. Deafeat the enemies and head down the steps and make your way down to find a dead end with a pressure stone. Standing on the stone activates a mechanism which drains the lower caverns from the water currently blocking your progression.

Once the water has been drained you may proceed down to the lower area. Here you will need to find 5 Altar Slates which you need to return to Brother Haslett. Each slate weighs roughly 15KG each which impacts your weight class considerably so make sure to spread them across your party as you find them.

The lower levels are crawling with undead. The lower area is like a maze. Some slates will be found in the area here. Others by heading upstairs. Each slate is inside a chest. If you are having trouble collecting all slates you may refer here: [[1]] as it contains maps with all slate locations.

Once they are in your possession return to Brother Haslett. This will trigger a cutscene. Once this is done Brother Haslett takes the slates and returns to Gran Soren.

Note: If you chose not to report your findings of Jean's demise earlier, then the quest will update both this and the previous part of the quest.

Report Your FindingsEdit

Once you return the slates to Haslett it is time to head back to Gran Soren. Once there speak with Ser Maximilian to complete the quest.

Quest SuccessfulEdit

After speaking with Ser Maximilian the quest is completed. You may select another Wyrm Hunt Quest if he has them available or choose "Hear the duke's directive" to advance the story line afterwards.
